The available options are excellent even if you don't use custom commands. One thing that I'd like to see is a complete edition featuring the capabilities of all three editions that are currently available.

dupeGuru PE runs on Windows and Mac OS X. It works like dupeGuru, but is specialized for duplicate pictures matching. dupeGuru PE is a big brother of dupeGuru. You may select to include artist, album, track, title, genre and year tags in the scan, scan audio contents, or use fields in the filename instead. dupeGuru Picture Edition (PE for short) is a tool to find duplicate pictures on your computer. The Music Edition works in similar fashion but offers more scan options.
There is a search available to find files or paths of interest, to add more information to the interface, or to export the results to the local system. You may batch rename, copy or move them, delete them outright or run custom commands on them. Plenty of actions are provided to deal with duplicate files found during the scan. Apart from that, they allow you to change the threshold used to determine whether files are duplicates and other factors such as a minimum size in Kilobyte or custom arguments that you may add to the scan. The program matches file contents by default but you may change that to file name or folders instead.

Information like file names, the full path and size are displayed, and as is a match score determining how similar listed files are. Each file and its duplicates are listed in the interface with files highlighted in blue indicating a new batch of duplicate files. The results are displayed right after the scan. If you want, you can even add multiple root folders which may be useful if you want to compete two or multiple folders with each other. This can be the root of a hard drive or a folder of a drive.
You are asked to pick a root folder for the scan on start. The programs work in a similar fashion though. There is dupeGuru, a general purpose duplicate file finder, and two special editions called dupeGuru Music Edition and dupeGuru Picture Edition optimized for finding duplicate media files.Ĭore differences between the general edition of dupeGuru and the media editions are that they support media features such as metadata and provide additional information based on those. However, if that's changed to keep it from scrolling (and again, I think it should be), a warning should also be added, to alert the user if they're trying to change files that have already been changed or, alternately, if they're trying to continue selection of more files, vs restarting a new selection, after the change is made.What sets it apart from other duplicate file finders is that there is not only one but three versions of the program available for download. Luckily, when it scrolled back to the first selected file, I saw what had happened and was able to fix it.
So when I pressed ctrl+space again, it switched all the newly selected ones as desired, but switched the last batch of selected ones back to the original reference. Once, I selected several files, then used the ctrl+space shortcut to switch them, then accidentally started selecting more without releasing ctrl without realizing it. I feel this should be changed to stay where you are when you switch them, but with a caveat. So it's possible nothing needs to be changed to "fix" this issue, and I'll try and report back after I play around with it some more, but it still would probably be a good idea to improve it.Īnother issue with this setting that I've discovered is that if you go through and ctrl+click multiple entries, scrolling as you go, then switch them all, it jumps back to the first one selected, instead of keeping your place in the results list. I'll have to try the re-prioritize action as mentioned there to see if it helps, and also I realized that if I show dupes only, then sort by folder, I can select and switch them all at once, so between those two methods, I suspect I will be able to do what I needed after all, just not as intuitively as simply right-clicking and having an option there as mentioned above. This also appears to be related to issue #312.
